SUNY OLD WESTBURY PROF ASKS: HOW MUCH DO MANAGERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TECHNOLOGY? SUNY College at Old Westbury - 12-22-2005
Dr. Alireza Ebrahimi, an Associate Professor in the Management, Marketing & Information Systems Department at SUNY College at Old Westbury, published ?Why Managers Should Become Better Acquainted With Programming Issues, Web Source Code, and Technology? in the November 2005 edition of The International Journal of Applied Management and Technology.
Ebrahimi?s article touches on the controversial debate over how well managers need to be acquainted with the areas of information technology and programming. In his work, Ebrahimi states that managers need to know more about information technology and to actively participate in the IT decision-making team. Furthermore, he suggests how managers can incrementally acquire some elementary knowledge of programming issues and web source coding so that they can be better prepared to manage in a dynamic market where changes are made in nanoseconds.
?With the increasing demand of the e-market, firms will need managers who understand the technology, and are able to deal with the possibility of chaos and uncertainty without interrupting business progress,? writes Ebrahimi. ?Programming and its operating issues may determine the success for some and root of failure for others.?
