Rotarians Join Hurricane Relief Efforts In Suffolk County Moriches Rotary of NY - 09-16-2005
(September 16, 2005-Center Moriches, NY) Members of the Moriches Rotary Club have joined thousands of Rotarians across the nation in the efforts to bring relief to the millions of victims of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.
Rotarians from the communities surrounding the hardest hit areas report the populations in their communities have nearly doubled as evacuees arrived. The daily cost alone to feed the refugees is nearly $1.5 million. Don Chauvin, Rotary District Governor for the parishes surrounding New Orleans, has issued a plea for cash donations to cover the costs of food, clothing and housing.
"Hurricane Katrina is the largest natural disaster to hit the United States," said Dale Wedell, president of the Moriches Rotary Club. "But Rotarians aren't afraid to face huge challenges. With your assistance, we will join our fellow Rotarians from around the region and the globe to get relief down to the victims as quickly as possible."
