Center Moriches, NY (September 9, 2004) The Moriches Rotary Club is hosting its 37th Annual Duck Barbeque and Duck Race as a fundraiser for Camp Pa Qua Tuck on Sept. 12, 2004, with service of 1000 Barbeque duck dinners at the Center Moriches camp and two exciting duck races on Kalers Pond. The Duck races begin at 4:00 p.m. Duck Dinners will be served from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The barbeque and duck race serves as one of the Moriches Rotary?s major fundraisers for Camp Pa Qua Tuck, a summer residential camp for handicapped children which the club has owned and operated since 1946. The camp has an annual budget of over $500,000 and receives no governmental support for its operation.
The Duck Barbeque and Duck race is an important fundraiser for the camp and is one which has been enjoyed by residents of the communities surrounding the Center Moriches camp for 36 years.
The Duck race, which begins at 4:00 p.m., is a unique fundraiser which allows people to adopt a numbered plastic duck which will compete with other plastic ducks in a race down Kalers Pond, powered by the wind and tide, toward the finish line. The ?parents? of the first three ducks split a monetary prize, the size of which is based on the number of tickets sold. In years past, the first place winner received approximately $2,000. The cost to adopt a duck is $10.00
