WEIBL WOBBLES WARRIORS Long Island Ducks - 05-03-2003
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 2, 2003) ? The Long Island Ducks, behind a bat-stifling pitching performance by RHP Clint Weibl, defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 9-1 at Citibank Park tonight. Weibl limited the Warriors to one run and four hits in seven innings while striking out a Ducks franchise record 13 batters. Relievers Joe Cotton and Pedro Borbon saw their first action as Ducks, throwing a scoreless inning each to close out the win.
While Weibl baffled Road Warrior hitters, the Ducks were using their bats to pound the opposition into submission. Outfielder Mark Whiten, who hit a three-run blast to right-centerfield that broke the game open in the sixth inning, and designated hitter Patrick Lennon, combined to drive in all nine Long Island runs.
Saturday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. the Ducks go for their third win in a row as they take on the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Citibank Park in game three of the four-game homestand. RHP Bryan Rekar takes the hill for the Ducks and LHP Brad Whitworth gets the start for Pennsylvania.
Good tickets are still available as team mascot QuackerJack will become the first-ever professional minor league baseball mascot to be immortalized as a ?Celebriduck?. The first 2,500 fans to enter the ballpark will be given the historical gift, courtesy of Cyber Financial Network.
